The pearl-seeker and treasure-hunter had something in common: they risked everything upon finding what they thought to be the most important thing for them. Christians must think about what they consider most important in life. Is it recognition, health, convenience, money, good education? Though these are all important, they will not remain with us forever. The challenge is for us to use these good things in order to seek what will give us real and long lasting happiness—and this is none other than the Reign of God.
Doing what God wants and becoming what God wants us to be must be our most important goal. We are challenged to live the values of God’s Kingdom which Jesus stood and died for, like justice, love, compassion, truth. We must realize that we can only truly love God by loving the people we live with, the people we relate with everyday in school, at work and in our neighborhood. Through them God is teaching us to grow and to be what God wants us to be.
Dear Jesus, You are my Pearl of great prize, the Treasure like no other. Help me to always do what you want. Help me to be the child that you want me to be. Let me give importance to things that matter to you and help me to pursue daily the values of the Reign of God; the cause for which you lived and stood and offered your life. Amen.
