kalantas = (n.) noun
calantas tree (sc.name: Toona calantas [Merril’s & Rolfe Enumeration of Philippine Flowering Plants 1923]), a kind of tree that is endemic to the Philippines and found anywhere in the country. A large tree with about 40 to 50 meters in height and about 1.5 meters in diameter. Its leaves are oblong, 5 to 13 centimeters long and 4 to 6 centimeters wide, has an acute apex and the base somewhat oblique. It has many flowers that are minute in size and branching inflorescence axis, and has large capsules that splits into halves. Calantas is highly prized as a timber tree. Its wood yields odoriferous oil similar to West Indian cedar and is highly priced for making cigar boxes. A decoction of the bark provides astringent and antiseptic properties and used to clean wounds. This tree has been listed as a Critically Endangered Species in DENR DAO 2007-01

malapapaya noun
malapapaya tree, an indigenous specie of tree that grows in thickets and second-growth forests at low to medium altitudes, so called because it branches like a papaya plant. It has soft, white and odorless wood. It can be found in Benguet, Ifugao, Pangasinan, Zambales, Bulacan, Rizal, Laguna, Quezon, Sorsogon, Mindoro, Palawan, Leyte, Surigao, and Basilan (sc.name: Polysias nodosa)
philippine teak tree noun
(sc.name: Tectona philippinensis [Beth. & Hoof. f.]) a small to medium-sized tree with a flaky bark and bears light purple flowers, providing food and shelter for local birds and mammals. It grows up to 15 meters tall in thickets and secondary forests at low altitude. Its hard, yellowish-brown wood was a major material in the construction of Philippine railroads and as a firewood for the locals. Also used for building houses, boat making, furniture, etc. Timber of immature trees is preferred to that of mature trees. Hence, fewer trees reach reproductive age that eventually caused it to become an endangered species. Locally known as malabayabas in Occidental Mindoro, Batangas & Laguna provinces. Endemic to southwestern Luzon. The remaining species are found only in Ilin and Ambulong islets of Occ. Mindoro and Mt. Makiling, Laguna.
